Board of Management Meeting
January 12th 2016
School Patron, Bishop Kirby has formally appointed the new Board of Management (2015-2019) and he has appointed Fr Daniel O’ Donovan as Chairperson.
Fr Daniel O Donovan welcomed the new Board members and thanked the outgoing Board for their hard work over the past four years.

• Stephanie Keating has been appointed Secretary to the B.O.M.
• All items for the agenda for the BOM come through the Secretary to the B.O.M.
• Ivan Kelly has been appointed Treasurer to the B.O.M. A Treasurer’s Report will be submitted monthly to the B.O.M.
• Frank Gallagher has been authorised to sign documents on behalf of the Board in the absence of the Chairperson.
• The Chairperson and the Principal are authorised to act on behalf of the Board between meetings.
Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week will take place during the week of 31st January-6th February
First Holy Communion & Confirmation Programmes
A letter outlining details in relation to the First Holy Communion and Confirmation Programmes will be sent to families later this month. The Board wishes the pupils, their families and their teachers the very best of luck in their preparations for these very special occasions over the coming months.
Meditation with Children
Meditation continues to take place twice weekly in the school on Tuesdays and Fridays for a period ranging from 2 minutes (for Infants) up to a maximum of 12 minutes for 6th class.
Enrolment forms have been issued for the new school year 2016/2017. The closing date for the receipt of completed application forms is March 16th 2016. The Board will hold a special meeting to discuss enrolment after this date.
School Self Evaluation and School Improvement Plan
The current areas of focus for school self evaluation and the school improvement plan include Literacy, Numeracy and Gaeilge Neamhfhoirmiúil.
New Language Programme
The Principal attended an information day on the New Language Programme on January 12th.
Policy Review: Child Protection
The annual review of the school’s Child Protection Policy will take place this term. The Designated Liaison Person for Child Protection is Stephanie Keating, Principal and the Deputy Designated Liaison Person for Child Protection is Noel Lohan, Deputy Principal.
Stay Safe Programme
All classes are participating in the Stay Safe Programme during the months of January and February.
The school choir is participating in Peace Proms on Saturday Jan 30th 2016 in Galway. The Board of Management wishes the 5th and 6th class pupils and their teachers the very best of luck in their performance.
Presentation of the National Flag and Proclamation to Creagh NS
The Principal thanked members of the Board of Management for attending the recent presentation in the school by the Civil Defence Forces of the national flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation. The school will mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising during this term.
The Board of Management approved the following requests for fundraising subject to Permits, where necessary, being granted.
• Easter/Christmas Bag Packing in Tesco (Date not yet confirmed)
• Cash for Clobber: Early 2016
• Tesco Blue Tokens (Date not yet confirmed)
• 5km Fun Walk/Run: Spring 2016
Areas of focus for fundraising include upgrading and investing in new equipment for technology and increasing the number of activity kits in the school.
St Brigid’s Day Crosses
The BOM approved a request from teaching staff members to continue with the tradition of making St Brigid’s Day Crosses in aid of Ballinasloe Social Services.
The Board of Management is very grateful to parents/guardians for their ongoing support through the school’s Voluntary Contribution. The Board of Management will review the Voluntary Contribution Scheme in Summer 2016.
The issue of parking around the school, especially at peak times, remains of concern to the Board of Management. The Board welcomes the ongoing support of the local
Gardaí with this matter. Parents/guardians are asked to exercise extreme care and caution when dropping off and collecting children from the school. Please remind children not to cross the road at the speed ramps.
