Appointments to the Board of Management

• Bishop Kirby, School Patron has appointed Mr Frank Gallagher to the position of Chairperson of the Board of Management, with effect from Monday January 15th 2018.

• Bishop Kirby has appointed Fr Kieran Danfulani to the Board of Management with effect from Monday January 15th 2018.

Appointment to the Position of Assistant Principal 1

The Board of Management congratulates Mrs Aine Bleahene on her appointment to the position of Assistant Principal 1.

Ratification of the Anti Bullying Policy following the Annual Review

The Board of Management has ratified the school’s Anti Bullying Policy following its annual review.

Child Protection Legislation

Following the full enactment of the Children’s First Act 2015 on December 11th 2017, the Department of Education and Skills has issued New Child Protection Procedures, available to download from www.education.ie These new procedures give direction and guidance to schools in relation to meeting the new statutory obligations under the Children First Act 2015. All schools must meet the new Child Safeguarding Statement requirements by 11 March 2018. The Department of Education and Skills is permitting schools two separate half day closures during 2017/18 to allow time for staff to engage with the revised procedures. Parents will be notified of these dates in due course. The Board of Management is committed to ensuring that the school is fully compliant with all aspects of this new legislation.

Review of the Health, Safety and Welfare Policy

The Board welcomes the work currently being undertaken by the Health, Safety and Welfare Committee on reviewing the school’s policy. A draft copy of the revised policy will be available to download from the school website before the end of this school term and staff and parents will be invited to submit feedback.

New Classroom

The Board of Management is confident that the new classroom will be ready for September 2018.

Summer Works Scheme

The gutters on the old part of the school building have now been replaced. Roof repairs will commence in the spring. All of this work is being financed by the Department of Education and Skills “Summer Works Scheme”.

Unforeseen Closures

The Board of Management considered the unforeseen closures that have occurred to date this school year. In accordance with DES Circular 009/2017 (Appendix B) available to download from www.education.ie, the Board is confident that the curriculum can be covered for each class before the end of the school year. However, if there are any additional unforeseen closures, the Board will review this matter.

New Committee

A new committee has been formed by the Board of Management to review the use of the pitch/playground areas in the school with a view to maximising all areas to their full potential. Further details will issue over the coming weeks after the committee has met.


The Board of Management acknowledges the commitment, loyalty and dedication of all staff members and the school’s Parents’ Association.


The Board of Management acknowledges the various fundraising events that have been undertaken by the school including the following:

• Christmas Jumper Day in aid of the local branch of SIMON: €608 was raised.

• Carol Singing in aid of Tanzania: €671 was raised by 6th Class Pupils.

• The BOM supports the annual making of the St Brigid’s Day Crosses in aid of Ballinasloe Social Services. Sincere thanks to Regina Power for co-ordinating this event each year.

The Parents’ Association are hosting their annual Table Quiz on February 2nd . Further details to follow.

Vote of Sympathy

The Board of Management extends its sympathy to Fr Mc Inerney, former Chairperson of the BOM on the death of his brother, Gerry Mc Inerney RIP and to Kevin Mc Murrow, former member of the BOM, on the death of his mother, RIP.

The Board of Management expresses its sympathy to all families recently bereaved.

Memorial to Fr Dan

The Board of Management, together with staff, pupils and parents will confirm details of a memorial to Fr Dan over the coming weeks.

Treasurer’s Report

The treasurer presented a detailed report to the Board of Management. The Board wishes to express its thanks to all who have contributed to our school’s Voluntary Contribution Scheme.
