Agreed Report from Board of Management March

Board of Management Meeting Agreed Report March 4th 2014

The following school events and successes were brought to the attention of the BOM

Credit Union Quiz: U11 have now qualified for the All Ireland on April 6th. The team members are Keelan Hanrahan, Masib Jawad, Aaron Grenham and Luke Feehily. Many thanks to Niall Clarke and Ballinasloe Credit Union, to class teachers, Sinead Cahalan and Aine Bleahene. Congratulations to these four pupils on their great win.

Taste of the World took place on February 7th and it was a huge success. Many thanks to Aisling Connaughton and to all of the parents and pupils that supported this great event.

Engineer’s Week: (Week of the 9th Feb) Many thanks to Aine Bleahene for organising a great week.

Cycle/Walk on Wednesday Days: These days continue to be very well supported by parents and pupils.

Green Flag: Mr Mark Molloy will visit the school on Wednesday March 12th in relation to the school’s application for its sixth Green Flag. This year’s theme is Global Citizenship.

First Confession: Takes place on Thursday 13th March in Creagh Church for the pupils in second class who will receive their First Holy Communion in May.

Commitment Ceremony for pupils in 6th class who will make their Confirmation in May takes place on April 3rd in Creagh Church.

Visit to Ombudsman Office by Mrs Bleahene’s 5th Class will take place on Thursday 13th March.

Seachtain na Gaeilge takes place the week beginning March 10th. Many thanks to Ms O’ Rourke for organising a range of events and activities here in the school.

School Calendar for next year 2014-2015 has now been confirmed and is uploaded to the school’s website. The decision to remain open on the Church Holiday, January 6th is an exception, due to the way in which the date falls, and does not set a precedent for future years. The BOM remains committed to observing all Church Holidays for the future.

Relationships and Sexuality Education Talk for 6th Class and Parents: March 20th and March 27th

Policy Development: Anti Bullying: The school’s Anti Policy is currently being reviewed in line with the Anti Bullying Procedures issued by the Department of Education and Skills in September 2013. A draft policy was examined by the BOM, a copy of which will be uploaded to the school’s website. Staff, parents and pupils will be invited to make submissions in relation to this policy on or before March 20th. The final draft of this policy will be ratified by the BOM before the end of this school term.

Astro Turf Sports Area Update: We are currently awaiting planning approval. In the meantime, this project has gone to E tenders. Closing date for submission of tenders is March 6th.

Parents’ Association Table Quiz: The BOM wishes to express its thanks to the Parents’ Association who are organising a table quiz to raise funds towards the Astro Turf Space Area. This event will take place on March 29th.

Use of the School by the Community: Community groups who wish to avail of school facilities must make a written application to the BOM. Subject to the Board’s approval, a contract must then be signed. Contracts must be renewed on an annual basis. The BOM retains the right to terminate any contract as per the terms and conditions outlined in the policy.

Enrolment for September 2014: Closing date for receipt of enrolments in March 31st.

Next Meeting of the BOM: Tuesday April 1st.
