Board of Management Meeting

Monday November 13th 2017


Children First Act 2015

The Children First Act 2015 will be fully enacted from 11/12/2017. The school will ensure policy and practice is fully complaint with this Act. Direction from the Department of Education and Skills will issue to all schools in relation to this legislation.

International Anti Bullying Week 2017

The Board of Management welcomes the school’s participation in this year’s International Anti Bullying Week 13th -17th November and in the Wear Red Against Racism Day which will take place on November 24th. The BOM will fund the guest speaker who will visit the Senior Pupils to speak about Anti Racism on November 15th.

Science Week

The Board of Management acknowledges with thanks the great work of the school’s Science co-ordinator, Mrs Bleahene, who organised a range of activities for all classes to celebrate Science Week. 13th-17th November.

Policy Review and Development

Policy review and development will continue in the following areas:

• SPHE Whole School Plan and RSE Policy (Review)

• Health and Safety Policy (Review)

• New Policy for Supporting Pupils with SEN

• Retention of Records Policy (Review)

• Annual Review of Child Protection Policy

• Annual Review of Anti Bullying Policy

• BOM to review Admissions Policy

Professional Development

First Aid Course: The BOM expresses its thanks to Athlone Education Centre for the First Aid Course for the staff, which took place on November 8th.

CPR Training

The BOM will fund CPR/Use of AED Training for staff which takes place on Monday 13th and Thursday 16th November.

Anti Bullying Seminar

The Principal will attend an Anti Bullying Seminar in December.

Friends for Life Training

Two teaching staff members will attend Friends for Life Training later this month. This training will be funded by the BOM.

New NEPS Psychologist

The Board of Management welcomes the appointment of Dr Niamh Flynn.

School Events

The Board was informed of school events that have taken place in recent weeks and of the range of events planned for the remainder of this school term. The Board of Management congratulates staff, pupils and the wider school community on the many school successes highlighted. The Board expresses its thanks to all staff for their ongoing commitment and dedication to the pupils in the school.

Ballinasloe People of the Year Awards

The Board of Management congratulates the school on its two nominations for Ballinasloe People of the Year Awards in the Sport and Recreation Team Award Section for Gaelic Games and Spikeball. The Board acknowledges the great work of Ballinasloe Enterprise Centre in organising this event.

Vandalism to the School

Unfortunately there has been further vandalism resulting in damage to the school. This matter has been reported to the local Gardaí.

Minor Works

The perimeter fence around the basketball court has been replaced.

Summer Works Scheme

While some repair work to the gutters will take place over the coming weeks, the main body of the roof repairs will take place during school holiday time.

New Classroom

The plans for the new classroom have gone to tender.

CCTV Upgrade

The current phase of upgrading the school’s CCTV security system and lighting will be completed over the coming weeks.


The BOM congratulates teaching staff member Ms Grace Carey on the recent birth of her daughter.

Creagh NS Parents’ Association

The Board of Management expresses its thanks to the Parents’ Association who will host light refreshments after the Friends for Life/Fun Friends Information Evening on Tuesday November 14th.

Voluntary Contribution

The Board of Management is very grateful to parents/guardians for their support to this year’s Voluntary Contribution Scheme.

Vote of Sympathy

The Board of Management expresses its sympathy to the Dervan family on the recent death of one of our past pupils Mary Dervan R.I.P.

The Board of Management expresses its sympathy to the Campbell family on the recent death of Tommy Campbell R.I.P.

The Board of Management expresses its sympathy to all families recently bereaved. The Board acknowledges the work of staff in the school in organising In November We Remember.
