New Parent Nominee to the BOM
• Ms Rita Blaine is the parent nominee to the BOM for the remainder of this term of office of the current Board (November 30th 2019)
• Mr Frank Gallagher welcomed Rita to the BOM. He thanked the outgoing parent nominee, Ms Caroline Kerr for her work as a member of the Board.
Minutes from the Meeting September 24th 2018 were proposed, seconded and adopted by the BOM.
The Treasurer presented a detailed report to the BOM, copy attached.
It was agreed by the BOM that the School Pitch Drainage Fund, the Sports Equipment Fund and the €1700 donation from the Parents’ Association will come under the umbrella of the Maximise Playground Facilities Fund.
The Chairperson thanked the Treasurer for his great work.
Maximising the School Playground Facilities
The Committee will meet early next term to progress this long-term project.

The BOM wishes to remind parents that the school’s Child Safeguarding Statement, including the Risk Assessment, is available to download on the school website www.creaghns.com Hard copies are available on request. This policy is reviewed annually and is due to be reviewed in March 2019.
Stay Safe Programme:
It is school policy that The Stay Safe Programme is covered with all classes every year during Term 2 (January-March). Parents are reminded to view the content and the online resources for this programme on www.staysafe.ie
The official opening took place on November 16th 2018. The extension is dedicated to the memory of Fr Dan O’ Donovan. It was officially opened by Bishop John Kirby. Members of Fr Dan’s Family attended along with a number of other invited guests. The BOM expresses its thanks to the building unit in the DES, the design team, Dolan and Associates and the builders T. Murray and Sons. The BOM also acknowledges the trojan work of the school caretaker, Joe Murphy throughout the building project.
The BOM confirms that the school’s Enrolment Policy is fully compliant with the Commencement Order signed by the Minister for Education and Skills on October 3rd 2018. The current Enrolment policy does not use religion as a criterion for school admissions, the school does not charge enrolment fees or seek payments or contributions as a condition of admission or continued enrolment of a student.
Droichead/The New Route of Induction for Newly Qualified Teachers
The school is now a recognised Droichead School following the National Induction Programme Training of three staff members Stephanie Keating, Aine Bleahene and Regina Power, who will work with newly qualified teachers in the school.
School Self Evaluation:
The agreed area of focus for this cycle of School Self-Evaluation is: The Use and Acquisition of Oral Language in English Oral Language.
The Board is very concerned that the school is still awaiting the appointment of an educational psychologist. The matter has been raised on behalf of the BOM by CPSMA Western Province and a motion has been proposed for the forthcoming AGM.

Creagh NS Parents’ Association:
The Parents’ Association held their AGM on November 22nd. The BOM expresses its sincere thanks to the outgoing Chairperson, Ms Marian Canavan and members of the outgoing executive committee for their trojan work.
The BOM wishes the Parents’ Association well for the coming school year and thanks them for their ongoing support. The Parents’ Association confirmed that €1700 would be given to the BOM. This money is from their fundraising initiatives and will be used towards a long-term project to maximise the school’s playground facilities.

Main School Events since the last BOM Meeting
Galway All Ireland Hurling Minor Champions Visited Creagh NS:
The Board congratulates past pupil, Shane Jennings who was awarded Man of the Match for his great performance in the All Ireland Minor Hurling Final.
The new Student Council from 5th and 6th Class was elected as follows:
Patrick Byrne, Aoibheann Fitzpatrick, Leah Clarke, Denis Kogteniov, Adam Doran, Ella Carty, Bláithín Mc Cann and Kyle Keighery. We wish the students and the Student Council coordinator, Mrs Barrett, the very best for the coming school year.
The BOM congratulates the students on their many successes in a wide range of activities and events, some of which were highlighted by the Principal as follows:
Athletics: Well done to our 5th/6th Class Girls who came first in the Connacht Athletics Competition. Representing Creagh NS were Aoibheann Fitzpatrick, Clodagh Killeen, Leah Clarke, Eva Ruane and Kayla Mc Keon. Well done to all who took part in this year’s athletics competition.
Minor Schools Swimming Competiton: Well done to all who represented Creagh NS in this competition.
Ballinasloe Fair and Festival Art Competition: Congratulations to all of the pupils who participated in the Fair and Festival Art Competition. Well done to all of the prize winners. Many thanks to Mrs Gallagher who co-ordinates our school’s entries into a range of art competitions throughout the year.
Sean Meade Football Tournament: Sincere thanks to teaching staff member Mr Mark Ronaldson for organising this event, which was very well supported by a number of schools. Congratulations to Creagh NS who were the winners on the day. Many thanks to the football coaches Mr Ronaldson, Mrs Bleahene, Ms O’ Rourke, Mr Geraghty and Mr Stephen Kerr. We were delighted that Sean Meade was present on the day to present the trophy and medals to the winning teams. The BOM expresses its thanks to Ballinasloe GAA for the use of their excellent facilities.
Hurling and Camogie Blitzes: Well done to the school teams that participated in hurling and camogie blitzes earlier this term. Sincere thanks to the coaches, Mr Geraghty, Ms Cahalan, and Ms Larkin.
Congratulations to Past Pupil on Making Sporting History
The BOM congratulates past pupil Béibhinn Parsons on making her debut for the Ireland Senior Rugby Team. Béibhinn is the youngest player ever to line out for an Irish national senior team.
After School Sports Activities:
The Board is very grateful to those that give freely and generously of their time to provide coaching in a range of sports.
The following coaching takes place for 3rd-6th class from 3p.m.-4p.m.
• Girls’ Football: Every Thursday with Ms O’ Rourke, Mrs Bleahene and Stephen Kerr
• Boys’ Football: Every Friday with Mr Ronaldson, Mrs Bleahene and Mr Andrew Naughton (Parent)
• Hurling: Every Wednesday with Mr Geraghty
• Camogie: Every Tuesday with Ms Cahalan and Ms Larkin
All personnel that undertake coaching duties are Garda Vetted.
Other After School Activities:

Fundraising for iPads:
The Toy Sale raised €5281.00. This money will be used to increase the number of iPads in the school. Sincere thanks to Ms Regina Power, Ms Antoinette Blade, Ms Patricia Rooney, all of the staff and the Parents’ Association.
No Uniform Day:
€568.70 was raised from our recent No Uniform Day organised by the Student Council. This money will be donated to the Audrey Morgan Medical Fund. We send our thoughts, prayers and best wishes to Audrey and her family and wish her full recovery to good health.
Friendship Week was celebrated in the school just before the midterm break. Pupils were involved in a range of activities throughout the week and we enjoyed a final celebration at a wonderful whole school Friendship Assembly led by pupils representing each class on Friday October 26th. Many thanks to staff for all of their work and in particular to Mrs Bleahene for co-ordinating this week which will now become an annual event.
Sincere thanks to teaching staff member, Mrs Aine Bleahene for organising a range of exciting events for Science week, which was celebrated in November (19th-24th).
Official Opening of the New Dining Room in Ballinasloe Social Services:
The BOM congratulates staff and pupils on their involvement and support of Ballinasloe Social Services. The school was represented at the official opening of the beautiful new dining room and prayer room in Ballinasloe Social Services on Friday by Ms Power, Ms Blade and a small group of pupils. The school has been fundraising for this important and valuable service for a number of years through making and selling St Brigid’s Day Crosses.
Switching On of the Christmas Lights in Ballinasloe:
The school participated in the Switching on of the Christmas Lights Ceremony in Ballinasloe on November 25th 2018. This event is organised by Ballinasloe Area Community Development. Sincere thanks to teaching staff members Aine Bleahene, Sinead Cahalan, Noel Lohan and Emily Lohan.
Creagh NS Choir Supporting Girls4Girls Fundraising Event:
The Board congratulates the pupils and staff that participated in the recent Roscommon Solstice Choir’s Christmas Concert. A local group, Girls4Girls, who fundraise to support education projects in Tanzania, hosted this event. The school has a long tradition of supporting various communities in Tanzania and we were delighted to support this event. The pupils received a standing ovation for their performance. Sincere thanks to teaching staff members Sinead Cahalan, Aine Bleahene, Mary Barrett, Shane Dolan, Antoinette Blade and Noel Lohan.
Anti Cyber Bullying Workshop for 6th Class and Talk for Parents:
This event, which took place on November 20th 2018, was a joint initiative organised by the three primary schools in Ballinasloe and was supported by the parish. The BOM encourages parents to avail of such information evenings.
In November We Remember:
During the month of November staff and parents remembered family members who have passed away. Sincere thanks to Mrs Gallagher for the lovely “In November We Remember” display inside our main entrance door. Pupils had the opportunity to visit this display and to spend some quiet time remembering their loved ones.
Christmas Jumper Day
The school will participate in the Christmas Jumper Day on December 14th to support the great work of Pieta House in Ballinasloe. Mrs Barrett and the Student Council will co-ordinate this event.
Fundraising for Tanzania
Our 6th class pupils, together with their teachers, Mr Ronaldson and Ms Greene will have their annual Christmas Singalong in Ballinasloe Town Square on Friday December 14th from 11a.m. to 1p.m. All money raised will be donated to Tanzania.
Monday December 17th 2018. We thank the priests of the parish for their ongoing support.
Christmas Plays/Performances and Celebrations:
The BOM acknowledges the great work of staff and pupils, supported by their parents/guardians. Well done to everyone involved in the various Christmas plays, performances and celebrations.
Lions Club Hamper Appeal:
The school will continue its tradition of donating non-perishable food items to enable the local Lions Club make up hampers for families in need this Christmas. Mr Lohan Mrs Barrett and the Student Council will co-ordinate this event.
Vote of Sympathy
To the Gaffey Family on the recent death of Mr John Gaffey RIP and to all of those recently bereaved, we extend our deepest sympathy.
