Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Please note the following information in our April/May Newsletter:

First Communion

Congratulations to our two second classes who received their First Holy Communion last Saturday. Sincere thanks to Fr Daniel O’Donovan, to their teachers Ms Power, Ms Moran, Ms Kelly; to our choir, musicians and teachers, Mrs Bleahene, Ms Dooley, Mrs Barrett and Ms Blade, to the altar servers and to all involved in celebrating this very special occasion. Our thanks to our Parents’ Association for hosting a party for the pupils and their families the following day. We encourage our pupils to continue attending weekly Mass.

Commitment Ceremony

Well done to our sixth class students who celebrated their Commitment ceremony on Tuesday. Sincere thanks to Fr O’ Donovan, to their teachers Mr Ronaldson, Mrs Gallagher and Mrs Mc Cann, to our choir and teachers, Mrs Bleahene, Ms Dooley, Mrs Barrett and Ms Blade.

Bishop Kirby’s Visit

Bishop Kirby, school patron, will visit the Confirmation Class on Tuesday May 3rd.

Confirmation

Our sixth class pupils will celebrate their Confirmation on Saturday May 14th. We wish them well as they continue to prepare for this special event.

Diocesan Advisors’ Visit to Creagh NS

We were delighted to welcome our former Chairperson, Fr Declan Mc Inerney and Sr Patrice Coen to our school recently. Fr Mc Inerney and Sr Patrice visited all of the classes and complimented pupils and staff on the very high standard in the pupils’ knowledge of the Religion Programme.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Míle buíochas do Iníon Uí Ruairc a shochraigh seachtain na Gaeilge iontach dúinn ag tús na míosa. Maith sibh do ghach duine a ghlac páirt sna heachtraí éagsúla.

Díolachán Cáca/Cake Sale

Many thanks to Mrs Bleahene’s 5th class and Mr Ronaldson’s 5th/6th class for organising the school’s recent cake sale and to all who supported it. €1,290 was raised and this money will go towards hurleys, helmets and bibs for our pupils in Infants-2nd Classes as well as other sporting equipment. Míle buíochas do ghach duine a thug tacaíocht dúinn.

Bee Spelling Competition

Well done to Derrick Woha, Sixth Class who represented Creagh NS in the recent Bee Spelling Competition in Galway.

1916 Rising Play

We congratulate our senior pupils who put on a wonderful play to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising recently. €341 was raised and this money will be donated to this year’s project for Tanzania. Our thanks to the pupils and staff, Mrs Gallagher, Mr Ronaldson, Mrs Mc Cann and Carmel for all of their work staging this production.

Activity Kits

We continue to promote active living among our school community as an important part of a healthy lifestyle. We thank our Parents’ Association for their generosity and support in financing further activity kits for our school. We expect to have these kits within the next two weeks.

School Policy Review

The annual review of the school’s Child Protection Policy has taken place. Feedback will be presented to the Board of Management at its next meeting, during which the policy will be formally ratified. The next review will take place during the school year 2016/17.

Friends for Life Programme

We were delighted to meet with the parents/guardians of the pupils in 4th class recently, ahead of the introduction of the new Friends for Life Programme. We are grateful to the Board of Management for their full support and to the two class teachers, Mrs Barrett and Ms Blade who attended training and are now qualified to facilitate this programme in our school.

Health and Safety - Internet Safety

Have you checked your child’s use of social media recently?

A number of parents have contacted the school with concerns re the use of social media. Please check your child’s phone and other devices.

5 km Fun Run/Walk

5 km Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday May 22nd. Further details will issue shortly. Our thanks to the staff and parents who are organising this event.

School Closures for May/ June

May: Monday 2nd Bank Holiday

June: School will be closed from Thursday June 2nd to Monday June 6th inclusive. Please see details as follows:

Thursday 2nd June (school closure to facilitate staff training in the New Primary Language Curriculum as directed by the Minister for Education and Skills)

Friday 3rd June: School Holiday

Monday June 6th: Bank Holiday

School will reopen on Tuesday June 7th

Wednesday June 29th: School will close at 12.30p.m. for the summer holidays and re-open on Thursday September 1st 2016.

Friday June 24th: School Tours for pupils in 2nd-6th classes. The school will be closed for all other pupils. We remind all of our pupils that the school’s Code of Behaviour applies to all school outings.

School Uniform

We ask you to continue to co-operate fully in relation to your child wearing the appropriate school uniform. A reminder please that the only shorts that may be worn during the fine weather are plain black shorts. Please note that shorts are entirely optional. Leggings and bicycle shorts are not part of the school uniform. The option of wearing shorts may have to be reconsidered if this cannot be complied with.

Lost and Found

There are a number of school uniform items (without names) in our lost and found press. If your child has lost anything, please check with the school secretary. Please ensure that your child’s belongings are clearly labelled so that they may be returned in the event that they are mislaid.

Safety in the Sun

Children should wear a hat and have sun cream applied prior to coming to school during warm weather. Additional drinks may also be required.

End of Year Tests

End of Year standardised tests will be administered to pupils from First-Sixth Classes during the period May 10th-May 26th. Tests cannot be rescheduled for pupils if they are absent from school as a result of holidays.

Vote of Sympathy

Our sympathy to the Clarke family on the recent death of Mr Ian Clarke, R.I.P.

Our sympathy to Mrs Florence Burke, a former member of our teaching staff and her husband Ray on the death of their son Owen R.I.P.

Our sympathy to Ms. O’Rourke on the death of her uncle Seán Duggan, R.I.P.
