Creagh National School Parents’ Association Spring Newsletter 2013

Christmas Fayre -We held our Annual Christmas Fayre on Sunday 2nd December 2012. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our sponsors, as ever the event would not have been possible without their generosity. Thank you to all parents who baked and gave gifts, biscuits, toiletries, books etc. Thank you to all parents who attended and helped to make this day a great success. Over €3000 was made on the day. Thank you to parents who collected spot prizes. A list of sponsors who donated a spot prize is overleaf. Apologies to anyone who may have been omitted.

Christmas Bag Packing – Thanks to everyone who gave their time to pack bags in Tescos. It was much appreciated as it is such a busy time of year. Over €1700 was raised on the day.

Congratulations to Mrs Agnes Hurley on her recent Retirement. Agnes will be missed greatly by children, parents and fellow staff members alike. We would like to wish Agnes the very best of luck, health and happiness in the years ahead, and would like to thank her very much from all the parents and children of Creagh School for her dedication, commitment and hard work she has given throughout her teaching career at Creagh School. As an alternative to a retirement gift Mrs Hurley requested that we make a donation of equipment to the school. It was decided that two Flickers (Scooters) and two Helmets should be purchased as this area of development was very close to her heart.

Congratulations to the teachers who married recently – Ms Antoinette Blade and Ms Karen Dooley.

Communion for 2nd classes this year will take place on 27th April 2013. Confirmation for 6th classes this year will take place on 18th May 2013.

Proms – Our school choir participated in the Peace Proms Concert on Saturday 9th of February in The Kingfisher Hall in National University College of Galway. The “Peace Proms” phenomenon was developed by the directors of internationally renowned Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. ”Peace Proms” is a unique and very special music education programme which gives young people the opportunity to perform with a full symphony orchestra and work with some of Ireland’s leading professional musicians and conductors. On Saturday the students of Fifth class had a great opportunity of being led by Ireland’s premiere conductor Maestro Gearóid Grant, and also featured tenor Emmanuel Lawler. The children shared the stage with the brilliant Youth Orchestra, Uilleann Piper Patrick Martin, outstanding Violinist Patricia Treacy and an excellent drum and piping band. The programme was packed full of family favorites and showstoppers. Our Fifth Class students did us proud by giving us a brilliant performance on the day. The students and their teachers, Mrs. Bleahene, Ms. Cahalan and Mrs. Gallagher, hard work and commitment to this event have to be greatly recognized and commended. Congratulations to all involved.
