New Board of Management 2015-2019

The members of our school’s New Board of Management 2015-2019 are as follows:

The first meeting of the new Board of Management will take place on January 12th 2016.

Our sincere thanks to all of the members of the last Board of Management (2011-2015) for their commitment, loyalty and dedication to our school for the past four years.

Our sincere thanks to the previous officers for their great work and commitment to our school over the past number of years. We are very grateful to the Parents’ Association for their ongoing support.

Confessions for Christmas

The priests of the parish visited the school last Thursday December 10th for the Sacrament of Penance (3rd to 6th Classes). We thank them for their ongoing support throughout the year.

Christmas Festival in Ballinasloe

We were delighted to support the recent Christmas Festival organised by Ballinasloe Enterprise Centre. Sincere thanks to Mrs Aine Bleahene for co-ordinating our school’s participation and well done to all the pupils involved.

No Uniform Day

We thank you for supporting our No Uniform Day last Thursday in aid of the Children’s Ward in Portiuncula Hospital and Crumlin Children’s Hospital which was organised by the school’s Student Council. €718.55 was raised and this money will be presented to the two hospitals before Christmas.

Lions Club Hamper Appeal

We are delighted to continue with our tradition of donating non-perishable food items to enable the local Lions Club make up hampers for families in need this Christmas. There will be boxes in classrooms this week where items may be placed (e.g. tinned foods, rice, pasta, cereals, tea, coffee, soups, sugar, biscuits, etc) We thank you for your support again this year. Our student council is working with Mr Noel Lohan, Deputy Principal to co-ordinate this appeal.

Gifts for Staff

We are very conscious of the financial pressures on families, particularly at this time of the year. Therefore we thank you for your full co-operation with the staff’s decision not to receive gifts at Christmas.

Science Week

Sincere thanks to the school’s science co-ordinator, teaching staff member, Mrs Aine Bleahene for organising a range of exciting events for Science week last month. Our thanks also to the Principal, staff and pupils of Garbally College who facilitated Science workshops during that week.

Bullying Awareness Week

Bulling Awareness Week was marked in our school recently. A range of lessons/activities took place in individual classrooms and our student council organised an Art Competition. Well done and thank you to all. We continue to encourage you to make contact with the school as early as possible if you ever have any concerns. We also continue to encourage our pupils to talk to us if they have any worries.

Thank you to our Grandparents

We were delighted to welcome some Grandparents to Ms Blade’s 4th class recently. We thank them sincerely for giving of their time generously and for sharing their sewing skills with the pupils.

National Flag Ceremony/1916 Commemoration

We were delighted to welcome members of the Defence Forces to our school last Friday and to receive a copy of the 1916 Proclamation and the National Flag. Well done to 6th Class pupils and their teachers Mrs Gallagher and Mr Ronaldson and to all involved in organising our school’s participation in this ceremony.

Enrolment Forms for 2016/2017

Parents wishing to enrol children in our school in September 2016 may obtain an enrolment form from the secretary’s office from January 6th 2016.

Parent Teacher Meetings for Infant Classes

Meetings will take place the week of January 25th 2016 as follows:

Monday 25th-Wednesday 27th 2.15p.m.-3p.m.

Thursday 28th 2.15p.m.-5.45p.m.

Friday 29th 2.15p.m.-3p.m.

Letter will follow mid January with further details.

Health and Safety Notices

Road Safety and Parking Awareness

We thank you for your full co-operation in relation to road safety and parking when dropping off and collecting children. We ask you to continue to be extra vigilant at all times. We are very grateful to the local Gardaí for their ongoing assistance.

Pupil Safety

Please continue to remind your child of the importance of keeping safe coming to and going from school, especially during these dark winter mornings and evenings. Pupils should never be alone nor should they deviate from their normal route to and from school. Seat belts should be worn at all times when travelling by car/bus while helmets should be worn when cycling. We also encourage pupils to wear high visibility jackets at this time of the year.

Social Media

Please continue to be vigilant around pupils’ use of Social Media. We remind our students of the importance of showing respect at all times when communicating with and about others.

Drone Safety

The Education Centres have asked schools to circulate information in relation to the safe use of drones. Please check www.iaa.ie/drones for further information.

Congratulations

We congratulate and celebrate our students’ many successes in a wide range of activities and events. We encourage them to share these successes with us, particularly during school assemblies.

Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve

Special Children’s Parish Mass in St Michael’s Church on Christmas Eve, @ 6.30p.m. All welcome

Christmas Holidays

The school will close on Tuesday December 22nd @ 12.30p.m. The school will re-open on Wednesday January 6th @ 9.20a.m. Please note that pupils will attend Mass as this is a Holy Day.

I would like to wish you and your families a very happy Christmas and peaceful 2016. My sincere thanks to you all for your kindness, co-operation and support during 2015. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of all of the staff here in Creagh National School.
