December Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Christmas Fayre

Sincere thanks to the Parents’ Association for organising a very successful Christmas Fayre here in the school, earlier this month.

Funding for Astro-turf sports area

We are delighted that Creagh Parents’ Association, with the support of the school’s Board of Management have been successful in their recent application to Ballinasloe Town Council, for funding under the Special Capital Grant Scheme for a project to convert an area of the school pitch into an Astro-turf sports area. A total of €53,669, which is 75% of eligible receipted expenditure has been granted. This will be a wonderful amenity for the future, but will need the support of the school community to raise some of the outstanding amount. We will have an agreed fundraising proposal in the New Year. We wish to acknowledge the support of the members of the Ballinasloe Town Council for this project.

Anti Bullying Procedures

Our school will review its Anti Bullying Policy in accordance with the new Department of Education and Skills Anti Bullying procedures next term. This policy will be developed in consultation with parents, students, and all school staff, and will aim to create a positive school culture and climate that is inclusive and welcoming of difference. The new policy will be ratified by the Board of Management by the end of March 2014. If you would like to view these new procedures and the associated circular (0045/2013) please visit www.education.ie . If you ever have any concerns in relation to bullying, it is very important that you notify me immediately.

Stay Safe Programme

During the months of January and February 2014, children in all classes will be covering aspects of the Stay Safe Programme.  To access the “Stay Safe – A Parent’s Guide” visit http://staysafe.ie This booklet has been produced to explain how you and the school – working together through the Stay Safe Programme – can help keep your child happy, confident and safe.

WOW and COW Day

Our recent WOW (Walk On Wednesday) and COW (Cycle on Wednesday) day, saw almost three quarters of the school cycle or walk to school. Get ready for the next one!

Well done to the Yellow Flag Committee who have been very busy since September. Last week they had a very informative meeting with the national co-ordinator, Ms Paula Madden. The results of the Yellow Flag questionnaires recently completed by pupils and parents were analysed and discussed during this meeting.
