Engineers’ Week Feb 9th-13th 2015
Many thanks to the school’s Science coordinator, Mrs Bleahene, for organising a range of events for Engineers’ Week. We were delighted to welcome a mechanical engineer to our school to talk to the pupil in 3rd-6th classes. Students in 4th-6th classes enjoyed a range of trips to Athlone Library, Birr, NUIG and GMIT during the course of the week. All students had the opportunity of engaging in a great variety of activities both in school and as part of their homework. We will post accounts and photographs of these events on the school’s website and on our science website.

Golf Classic Fundraising Event
A committee, supported by the Parents’ Association, are running a Golf Classic in Ballinasloe Golf Classic on Saturday April 18th. All funds raised will be used towards the drainage of the school pitch. We are very grateful to the committee for undertaking this fundraising event, as it will allow us to proceed with the work required on the pitch.
Lunch Time Activities
Use of the School Pitch
We encourage all pupils (1st-6th) to avail of the grass areas. A change of footwear, socks and pull ups are required when on the pitch until further notice.
The school’s Active Living Committee has organised sets of equipment for use by pupils (3rd-6th Classes) on a rota basis during lunch time. Some of the proceeds from last year’s 4th/5th class cake sale along with financial support from the Board of Management have enabled the school to purchase these activity kits which we hope will promote activity, team sport and co-operation among our pupils during their break. We propose investing further in this initiative next year to enable junior classes to benefit also.

The safety of our pupils is our priority at all times. We continue to urge all parents/guardians to exercise extreme caution when dropping off and collecting children. We encourage you to park safely if you need to walk your child into the school grounds. The local Gardaí continue to assist us, particularly at peak times. As the weather starts to improve, we encourage pupils to walk/cycle to school. Please remind pupils to cross the road safely, using the pedestrian crossing and/or the lollipop lady.
