Dear Parents/ Guardians,

 St Brigid’s Day Crosses: The pupils in Ms Power’s, Ms O’ Sullivan’s and Ms Blade’s classes have raised €2,301.97 from the sale of their handmade St Brigid’s Day Crosses. A cheque for this amount has been presented to Ballinasloe Social Services. Thank you to the local businesses and wider community who supported this wonderful fundraising event, to the class teachers and their pupils. A special word of thanks to Ms Blade’s father, Mr Anthony Blade for passing on his expertise and skill in the art of making these crosses to a large number of classes in the school. The pupils have received a letter from the President, Michael D Higgins acknowledging receipt of the cross sent to him.

Enrolment Forms for September 2013 should now be returned to the school. The Board of Management will hold a special meeting at the end of March to consider all applications. Parents will be notified within three weeks of this meeting of the outcome of the Board’s decision in relation to their application. A copy of the school’s enrolment policy is available from the school secretary.

School Choir will participate in the Peace Proms Concert on Saturday, February 9th @ 2p.m. in the Kingfisher Hall, NUIG. We wish the fifth class students and their teachers, Mrs Bleahene, Ms Cahalan and Mrs Gallagher the very best of luck. They have all worked very hard preparing for this event.

Anti Bullying: We continue to strive to ensure that the pupils in our school are not victims of any form of bullying. If you have any concerns in relation to this area, please ensure to contact me directly here at the school. The school’s Anti Bullying Policy is currently being reviewed.

Credit Union Quiz Teams:

Congratulations to the following four teams chosen to represent the school at the recent Credit Union Quiz.

Under 11: Mark Gallagher/Maria Colohan/Niall Phelan/Aoibheann Carty (2nd)

Under 11: Anna Kelly/ Matthew Devine/Oisín Carroll/Chloe Johnston (Winners)

Under 13: Hannah Gullane/Jack Delaney/Sean Donnellan/Emma Loughnane

Under 13: Shane Jennings/Danielle Greasley/Deirdre Leyden/Oisín Duffy (2nd)

The winners in the under 11 category will represent Ballinasloe at the next level of the competition. Thank you to their class teachers for the great work they did preparing them. We are also grateful to Ballinasloe Credit Union for organising this event and for the generous prizes presented to the pupils.

Health and Safety: The school has received its up to date Fire Security Certificate of Inspection. This will be renewed on an annual basis.

Crazy Hair Day next Wednesday, February 13th in aid of a pupil in second class in Eyrecourt NS who is currently battling cancer. We kindly request that you support this very worthy cause. The school prefects will issue a letter with further details.

Bishop Cassidy, former Bishop of Clonfert died recently. The school extends its sympathy to his family and to Ms Mary Phelan, his private secretary on his death. R.I.P.

Bee Spelling Competition: Congratulations to Alison Kenny Coyne, 6th Class chosen to represent Creagh NS at the national Bee Spelling Competition in Galway this Friday.

All Ireland Swimmers: Best of luck to Adam Mc Greal, Aoibheann Reilly, James Mooney, Fionnán D’arcy and Fionn Doherty who will swim in the All Ireland Competition (Minor Schools) this Saturday February 9th. What a wonderful achievement to reach this level. Congratulations to you all and the best of luck in your individual races and in the relay race.

Mid Term Break: School will close Thursday 14th and Friday 15th February.
