Green Flag Award 2012

Creagh National School was awarded its 7th Green Flag earlier this year for its work on the Biodiversity Theme.  The children and staff of the school and particularly the Green Committee have been busy for the past 18 months developing this theme.

Activities began with the erection of nesting boxes for birds, the development of a vegetable garden, planting buddleia shrubs for butterflies.  Our last activity was building a bug hotel to encourage mini beasts in the school grounds.  Previous Green Flag Themes of Recycling, Reusing and Reducing Waste, Conserving Energy and Water, promoting Walking and Cycling to School were also continued.

The next theme for a green flag is ‘Green Homes’.  Details of what will be involved, and how the school can support the activities, will be outlined at a later date.
