Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Parent Teacher Meetings for parents of pupils in Junior and Senior Infants will take place the week beginning February 3rd . The school will be in contact nearer the date to confirm appointment times. If you require an interpreter for this meeting please make contact with the school before the end of January.

Yellow Flag: This year, our school is taking part in the Yellow Flag programme. The Yellow Flag is awarded to schools who promote equality, diversity and interculturalism, through 8 practical steps which are applied to the day to day running of the school. Only fifteen schools nationwide will be awarded a Yellow Flag this year. We have a very hardworking committee in place and many intercultural events are planned over the coming weeks and months. Visitors to the school are invited to view our YF noticeboard near Mr. Dolan’s room, and your views and ideas are always welcome.

A Taste of the World Day will take place in the school on Friday February 7th 2014. Further details are available from Ms Connaughton.

Food Allergies: It is essential that we are up to date in relation to any food allergies that your child my have. If you have not already contacted the school with this information, please do so.

St Brigid’s Day Crosses: The pupils in Second Class are making St Brigid’s Day Crosses which will be on sale in the local shops from today, January 20th @ €2 each. All of the money raised will be given to Ballinasloe Social Services. We kindly ask you to support their great work in aid of a very worthy local cause. Many thanks to Ms Blade’s father, Anthony, who has been giving generously of his time to share his expertise in the art of making these crosses.

Catholic Schools Week: January 26 th-February 2nd. There will be a special Mass for Grandparents in St Michael’s Church on Wednesday 29th January @ 11a.m. We extend an open invitation to all Grandparents in our school to attend this Mass.

Health and Safety Issues:

We remind you that the official opening time for school is 9.20a.m. Pupils should not be dropped off early. The Board of Management requests your full co-operation in this regard.

There have been a few cases of the vomiting bug among pupils in the school. If your child has this bug please ensure that they are kept at home for at least 24 hours after the last bout of vomiting.

We continue to remind pupils of the importance of being safe and secure when travelling by car. Safety belts should be worn at all times even on short journeys.

Head lice can spread rapidly in a class unless all parents/guardians are vigilant about checking their child’s hair regularly.

The tarmac area can be quite slippery after heavy rainfall and during frosty weather. Therefore pupils have been asked to walk on this surface area. Pupils (1st-6th) have access to a grass area where they can run during lunch break, but a change of footwear is required please.

Enrolment Forms for September 2014 are now available from the school.

Taster Tuesday 6th Class Pupils will spend Tuesday January 21st in the two local secondary schools.

Music Outing: 3rd Class will visit Leisureland on Tuesday January 21st to hear the RTE Symphony Orchestra perform.

WOW and COW Days! Please continue to support the school’s Walk/Cycle on Wednesdays. Details of the next date will issue shortly.
