Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Special word of welcome to new teaching staff member, Ms Ria Curtin. Ms Curtin is replacing Mrs Hurley, whom we wish well on her recent retirement.

Donation to Tanzania: The staff and pupils of Creagh NS have made a donation of €1000.00 to the ongoing educational development of the children with whom Sr Annette Farrell works with in Tanzania. This donation was made in the name of Mrs Agnes Hurley. Mrs Hurley requested a donation be made in her name in lieu of a presentation to her.

Bag Packing on December 23rd raised €1735.52. Many thanks to all who collected and who supported this fund raising event. The money will be allocated towards improving the outdoor sports facilities in the school.

Parent Teacher Meetings for parents of pupils in Junior and Senior Infants will take place on February 7th. The school will be in contact nearer the date to confirm appointment times. If you require an interpreter for this meeting please contact with the school before the end of January.

Mid Term Break in February: Thursday 14th and Friday 15th.

School Choir: The 5th class pupils will participate in the Peace Proms Concert in the Kingfisher Hall, NUIG Galway on February 9th @ 2pm. Many thanks to the teachers, Mrs Bleahene, Ms Cahalan and Mrs Gallagher for teaching the repertoire; and also to Mr Dolan for facilitating rehearsals over the last few weeks. It is a wonderful opportunity for the pupils to sing in a large choir with a full orchestra. A limited number of tickets costing €12.50 will be available from the school.

St Brigid’s Day Crosses: The pupils in Ms Power’s, Ms O’ Sullivan’s and Ms Blade’s Classes are making St Brigid’s Day Crosses which will be on sale in the local shops the week of January 15th @ €2 each. All of the money raised will be given to Ballinasloe Social Services. We kindly ask you to support their great work in aid of a very worthy and local cause.

Catholic Schools Week: January 27th-February 2nd. There will be a special Mass for Grandparents in St Michael’s Church on Wednesday 30th January @ 11a.m.

Health and Safety Issues

Please continue to exercise extreme caution during the remaining renovations to Creagh Church. Footpaths near the church will be in use again from next week.

There have been a few cases of the vomiting bug among pupils in the school. If your child has this bug please ensure that they are kept at home for at least 24 hours after the last bout of vomiting.

We continue to remind pupils of the importance of being safe and secure when travelling by car. Safety belts should be worn at all times even on short journeys.

Enrolment Forms for September 2013 are now available from the school.

If you ever have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to make contact with us. A copy of the school’s Child Protection Policy is available on the school’s website and in the secretary’s office. This policy is updated on an annual basis.

Homework: If your child is experiencing difficulty in this area please make an appointment to see the class teacher. The Homework Club is up and running again for the current school term. Please contact Mr Dolan or Ms Connaughton if you wish to avail of this facility.

School Self Evaluation Questionnaires Many thanks for your response to these questionnaires. We will be correlating the responses over the coming weeks.

Irish Times Educational Supplements: Over the Christmas period the Irish Times printed some excellent supplements on helping your child with Reading, Spellings and Mathematics, which you may find beneficial. These articles have been reprinted by the school and can be viewed/downloaded from the school’s website.
