Mrs Bleahene’s fifth class attended an exciting and informative workshop relating to children’s rights and responsibilities in the OCO (Ombudsman for Children’s Office, Dublin) on the 25th of April 2013. During this visit they attended a multi media presentation exploring children’s rights based on the UN convention on the rights of the child. Following this there was a group activity accompanied by fruit and juice and we were all given a pencil case and a really cool key ring with a children’s right on it. The session ended with a bit of a bounce on the coolest beanbags we have ever seen and a question and answer session with Emily Logan, Ireland’s first Ombudsman for Children. We all really enjoyed the day and we were made to feel at home from the moment we were welcomed into the building by Kate Halpin and all through our visit. We would like to say a huge thanks to Kate, who arranged for us to attend this workshop, the staff of the OCO for all their help and friendliness on the day and Emily Logan for listening to us with such interest and answering all our questions with such respect.
